This article documents the continuing development of the privately operated Warner Avenue airstrip following its approval as an authorised landing area in June 1974. Unlike the Central Coast Aero Club’s proposal at Warnervale, which was intended to provide a permanent regional airport capable of supporting general aviation and commuter services, this application focused on expanding community aviation activities at the existing private airstrip.
The proposal included facilities for youth and recreational aviation organisations, including a Junior Flying Club, the Air League, Air Training Corps and Scout groups, together with construction of a clubhouse. It demonstrates that, despite ongoing debate surrounding the future of Warnervale, aviation development within Wyong Shire continued on multiple fronts.
The article is also significant because it marks a shift in the Warner Avenue airstrip from a privately developed landing area towards a community-based aviation facility, reflecting the growing interest in recreational and youth aviation during the mid-1970s.
