RPL & PPL Theory Courses in NSW (Warnervale Airport)

Learn the Theory Behind Your Pilot Licence

Learning to fly isn’t just about handling the controls – it’s about understanding what’s happening around you and making the right decisions at the right time.

Every pilot is required to complete theory training as part of their licence, covering areas like air law, meteorology, navigation and aircraft performance. This can be done via self-study or through a structured theory course with the aero club.  These aren’t just subjects to pass an exam – they form the foundation of every safe and confident flight.

While textbooks provide the information, many students find that studying alone leads to confusion, gaps in knowledge, and difficulty applying what they’ve learned once they’re in the aircraft.

That’s where structured theory training makes the difference.

At Central Coast Aero Club, our theory courses are designed to go beyond memorising content. We focus on helping you understand how the theory works in real flying situations – so when you’re in the cockpit, you’re not just recalling information, you’re making informed decisions with confidence.

Why Structured Theory Training Matters

Aviation theory is practical knowledge that directly impacts every flight. Understanding weather, airspace, aircraft performance and human factors allows you to plan properly, avoid risks and operate safely in changing conditions.

Students who complete structured theory training typically progress more efficiently through their flying, feel more confident in the aircraft, and are better prepared for both their exams and real-world decision making.

Why Choose Our Theory Courses at Warnervale Airport

What sets our theory training apart is how it’s taught.

Our instructors don’t just explain the syllabus — they bring it to life using real examples from the aircraft and everyday flying situations. This helps bridge the gap between theory and practice, making complex topics easier to understand and far more relevant.

Rather than memorising answers, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of how and why things work — giving you the confidence to apply your knowledge during training and beyond.

Our theory courses are designed to support you at every stage of your training, from your first lesson through to advanced licences. Each course is structured to match CASA requirements while focusing on real-world understanding and practical application.

Pilots who have sat our theory courses have very high pass rates in the applicable CASA exams

Recreational Pilot's Licence Theory Course

The Recreational Pilot’s Licence covers basic aeronautical knowledge, air law, meteorology, human factors, loading and performance.  Our RPL theory course is a 4 day course that is run over 2 weekends.  Run in a classroom setting you will have one instructor teaching the course, with various exercises and practice exams throughout the course to help you learn all the theory and be confident in sitting the CASA exam.  There is also the option to sit the pre-solo and pre-area solo exams during the course.

Note: textbooks and additional materials are not included in the course price.

Private tuition can also be organised at $130/hr.

All prices includes GST and are subject to change.

Private Pilot's Licence Theory Course

The Private Pilot Licence has the largest theory syllabus of all the exams.  There are various subject areas to be covered during the CASA exam.  Our PPL theory course is a 6 day course that covers all aspects of the syllabus and gets you prepared for the CASA exam.  Just like the RPL course, our PPL course is run in a classroom setting, with one instructor teaching the course.  There are various exercises and practice exams throughout.  The course is either run full time, 6 days in a row; or over 3 weekends (course structure varies throughout the year, based on student demand).

Note: textbooks and additional materials are not included in the course price.

Private tuition can also be organised at $130/hr.

All prices includes GST and are subject to change.

Commercial Pilot's Licence Theory

The Commercial Pilot Licence theory syllabus is more comprehensive than the PPL, however in place of one large exam there are 7 separate exams. This allows you to dedicate study to each topic separately.  At this stage we don’t run any classroom CPL theory courses.

Private tuition can also be organised at $130/hr.

All prices includes GST and are subject to change.
