Central Coast Express Advocate, 17 October 1973, “Council News in Brief – Parties to Meet on Air Services”.

High Historical Significance
Important early planning article showing Wyong Shire Council bringing together the State Planning Authority, Department of Civil Aviation, Central Coast Aero Club and Mr Parry to discuss broader air services for the shire. It also records CCAC’s formal protest over rejection of the Warnervale airstrip proposal.

This article highlights the complex planning environment surrounding aviation development on the Central Coast during the early 1970s. Rather than focusing solely on the proposed Warnervale airstrip, Wyong Shire Council sought to bring together the State Planning Authority, Department of Civil Aviation, Central Coast Aero Club and the private developer to discuss the region’s broader aviation needs.

The report also reveals that the Central Coast Aero Club had formally objected to the rejection of its Warnervale airstrip proposal, demonstrating the club’s active involvement in shaping the future of local aviation. At the same time, concerns were being raised about a separate privately developed airstrip in Pollock Avenue and its potential impact on regional planning.

This article captures an important period when competing proposals, government agencies and aviation organisations were working to determine the long-term direction of air services in the Wyong district. It provides valuable insight into the collaborative—and sometimes conflicting—process that ultimately led to the development of Warnervale Airport.

Council News in Brief PARTIES TO MEET ON AIR SERVICES Wyong Shire Council will convene a meeting between the State Planning Authority, Department of Civil Aviation, Central Coast Aero Club and the developer of an airstrip in Pollock Avenue, Wyong, to discuss the provision of an adequate air service in the shire. In a report to last week’s meeting of council, the shire clerk, Mr John Dawson, said the Central Coast Aero Club had advised that it had formally protested to the Gosford/Wyong Steering Committee of the State Planning Authority over the rejection of its development application for an airstrip at Warnervale. The club had further asked the State Planning Authority to arrange a joint discussion on the matter with representatives of council, the State Planning Authority and the Department of Civil Aviation. Mr Dawson said that while he doubted real gains would result from a meeting specifically to discuss the Warnervale airstrip proposal, there could be advantages in a broader meeting to discuss ways and means of providing an adequate air service for the shire. In a report to the same meeting, town planner Mr Ken Fitzpatrick said the State Planning Authority was concerned that the development of Mr Parry’s airstrip in Pollock Avenue was proceeding. The Authority opposed construction of an airfield at that location because of its possible impact on strategic planning studies being undertaken in the Wyong area. Mr Fitzpatrick recommended that Mr Parry be included in the proposed discussions.
